Yesterday I took part in Cardiff's Photomarathon. (Photomarathon Website)

Whats that huh?

12 Topics, 12 hours, 12 photos, 1 film each and 400 shutterbugs let loose on the city.

It's a competition and a fantastic event that brings all us snap-happy folks out of the woodwork to enthuse and test our creativity and photographical skills.

The topics this year were:
Your Entry Number/Colourful, Contained, Roll With It, Chip, Age, Crunch, Black and White, Social Network, Spillage, Missing, Dressed to Impress, Winner.

It's a brilliant way to boost your confidence taking photos out and about - you feel less conspicuous if doing it for a purpose, and the little orange wristband gives you an extra excuse to talk to people and get them to cooperate for your photos.

There's prizes too - topic prize winners and an overall winner. But everyone gets all of their photos displayed in the Old Library on The Hayes in central Cardiff. Sweeeet!

Of course, being on film only makes it a LOT harder - and things inevitably go wrong. I think maybe only 10/12 of my entry will be any good. One at least was majorly f**ked up!

Still it's all fun and games, and you get to meet interesting people, chat photography with folks and generally have a laugh, whilst at the same time getting inspired and being challenged. And it was challenging..not just on the mind and ability but on my poor legs! Which by the end of it were aching, today I have shoulder strap bag pain on my collarbone and a general fatigue!

Still, the effort is totally worth it and I can't wait for next year.


I personally took a digital SLR along with my Film SLR, so I could test out and preview shots as I went along. (A very good tip!!) I also spent a lot of the time inbetween thinking up ideas just snapping away on the digi. So expect some Cardiff-related photos to appear soon.
